When I normally visit a McDonald's restaurant I order a #2 with a diet coke, no ice. However, something terribly went wrong last Saturday evening at the McDonald's on the corner of Blossom Hill and Snell.

I ordered my usual #2 with a diet coke, no ice. The McEmployee at the register says, "Is that a LARGE or SUPER-SIZE?"

Wait a second, it seems to me I am being CON'ed out of 35 cents. If you've been to a McDonalds recently you would know that there are 3 choices, the REGULAR, the LARGE, and SUPER-SIZE. However, this McEmployee is trying to get some extra money out of me by getting me to get the LARGE or SUPER-SIZE without giving me the option of the REGULAR.

So I ask him, "Don't I have the choice of a REGULAR?"
McEmployee, "Ya, but-"
"Hold on, it sounds like your trying to CON me," I interrupt in a fit of outrage.

Nothing more came of my visit except bitterness and outrange. However, I soon realized this was not an isolated incident. This soon became the new trend in the marketing wars of the fast food industries. Everything now-a-days at fast food restaurants are about super sizing your meal. The idea is for about 39 cents you can upgrade your meal and get a larger coke and fries.

As of recently fast food restaurants like Burger King, McDonalds, and Jack In The Box require their employees to say something along the lines of "Will you want that as a medium or large size?" Their marketing scam leaves out the third option. It’s the option that doesn't require you paying any extra money for your meal. Their employees only ask the options that require you to spend more money.

Furthermore, Jack In The Box and Burger King no longer call their medium size "medium." It is a clever marketing attempt to lure people into ordering their usual medium number 2 for an extra cost. It’s true most people don't notice an extra few cents missing out of their pockets. I mean you still get a larger size then required. However, meal sold after meal sold to unsuspecting customers around the world at 39 cents will add up very fast.

In short, this is another reason why we all should eat healthier and stay away from fast food.
